Resilience is not just surviving challenges, but reshaping them into stepping stones for growth.
Mave proudly hails from the “fairest isle of all the earth,” Saint Lucia. Through the scholarship opportunities created by the diplomatic ties between Saint Lucia and Taiwan, she found her way to NTHU to continue her academic journey. Before joining the IMBA program, she built more than a decade of professional experience at the island’s Tax Office, serving as a Late/Non-Filer Officer, Auditor, and Collection Officer. Her career exposed her to the complexities of taxation, database management, and organizational systems, while sharpening her skills in negotiation, problem-solving, and policy analysis.
With a strong desire to pivot, Mave sought a program that would prepare her for new opportunities. The IMBA at NTHU stood out for its balance of rigorous coursework, strong faculty, and vibrant multicultural environment.
What makes her feel most like an “IMBAer” is the program’s holistic spirit. She values the supportive environment, especially from the IMBA staff, and the way students from across the globe bring unique perspectives into every classroom discussion, blending theory with lived experiences. From corporate law lectures to cross-cultural projects, every course has contributed not only to her academic growth but also to her personal journey of adaptation and resilience in Taiwan.
The highlight of her IMBA journey so far has not only been academic growth but also the personal experience of living in Taiwan. As a Black woman, she feels a sense of safety and respect walking around the city that contrasts with many places she has known. She also values that issues often overlooked in her home country are taken seriously in Taiwan, which has made her feel supported and secure in her new environment.
Looking ahead, Mave intends to use her IMBA experience as a springboard into new professional opportunities, staying true to her belief that every challenge can be reshaped into growth.
